Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted many legendary styles associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

This news arrives just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose impact on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
