NFL 2025 season: Week six
Live coverage features text commentary of the weekend matchups via multiple platforms, starting with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Additionally, audio coverage can be heard on designated networks for another key matchup (beginning at 9 PM BST).
We're in the sixth week in the NFL season and after last week's talk regarding the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as possible championship contenders, each surrendered their perfect starts.
Striking during those contests was the number of penalties both committed. The Eagles committed them in key moments meaning they essentially defeated themselves having led 17-3 going into the final quarter versus Denver, who play overseas this weekend.
However it was good to observe how Denver quarterback the rookie was able to overcome that deficit and then direct three scoring drives on three possessions in the fourth quarter, securing the victory by four points.
The Broncos boast the top defender with cornerback their star corner. They are first in red zone defence, while Philadelphia lead the league in scoring near the end zone, and the Broncos prevailed in that battle.
They executed effective strategies in terms of disguised blitzes. They weren't always rushing extra pass rushers but they could position two linebackers in the interior before drop them out and dispatch a slot defender off the edge.
At the start of the season, it was noted during a show that the Broncos might emerge as this season's dark horses. They ended last season strongly and did a good job in continuing that momentum.
Are the Denver Broncos this season's underdog story?
New TE Evan Engram has excelled significantly and new running back JK Dobbins is a guy the team trusts. He's currently 5th in the NFL for rushing yards (over 400) and tied-fourth for rushing touchdowns (four).
It's impressive how head coach the Broncos' leader has "RUSH!" prominently of his playcall sheet.
That shows that Denver are a squad aiming to prioritize the run, since one can do a lot off the back of that. It reduces down the pass rush while maintains in positive situations.
It's also helped quarterback the young passer, who entered into the league as a first-round selection in the prior draft, passing for 29 touchdown passes – just behind a star QB in rookie records (31 back in 2020).
Other elite QBs possess the arm strength to throw anywhere, however they lack in the same way as Nix. He has incredible arm talent, which is different, and he's so athletic.
His strengths include his movement, the capacity to pass on the run, and using varied release points to make throws as he moves outside protection, the bootlegs. He can deliver precision throws over the middle and past defenders.
As a rookie QB, at 25, he's got great composure in the pocket and isn't really fazed by extra rushers. He tries to avoid a sack as much as possible and can pass under pressure. He has a high football IQ and remains quick to decide.
When you constantly run the ball it consumes the clock and forces the opponent to stay on the field for longer, and when you have a mobile QB the defense must defend the area vertically and horizontally. It can be exhausting.
The quarterback has pushed back with the coach during games sometimes and it seems the coach likes that attitude, that he's a fierce rival. I think it's exciting for the coach to coach a rookie QB that is kind of like moldable clay. He can truly develop him the way he desires to shape him. I believe it's a unique opportunity for him.
The head coach has won a championship and has surpassed a legend in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed everything. In my opinion the success Denver are having on offence is mostly down to his guidance, his play-calling, his situational awareness – and the pairing with Nix aids make him what he is.
There's no better a better guy in your ear, to help you through some of the tougher situations and build self-belief.
I have faith in Denver's defence, in the QB's grit and calm. But is the team good enough to face a top squad at full strength? Because that wasn't a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles in their last game.
Currently, it's unlikely Denver are incredible. They're performing above average, that's a good place to hold the AFC West. All they need is to continue this trajectory.
They're really good at embracing their strength, which is the ground game, and that's precisely what they must do versus the Jets at Tottenham. It will likely be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.
The Jets have allowed 140 yards on the ground each contest (sixth worst), five rushing touchdowns this season (in the bottom ten), and they are the sole squad yet to win a game.
Ever since the NFL began tracking turnovers decades ago, this team are the inaugural squad to go without a single takeaway in five outings, this is surprising considering that their new coach Aaron Glenn defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.
The Chiefs' QB says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' after Monday's defeat by the Jaguars.
After this Sunday's game, the Broncos have a manageable slate up to their bye (in week 12) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and the Raiders before the Kansas City Chiefs.
In their division, the Chiefs hold a losing record while Denver are tied with the Chargers at 3-2 meaning they could challenge at leading the division.
It depends upon which form of the Chiefs they face since Denver {beat|def
