Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
