Vince Gilligan Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would become a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the popular sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season officially in the works—the writers' room recently discussed the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the constant speculation and fan theories about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by fan response, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
